Valkyeries

The Valkyries are mythical figures in Norse mythology, renowned as warrior maidens and death spirits who serve Odin, the chief of the Aesir gods.

These formidable beings are tasked with haunting the battlefield and choosing which fallen warriors are worthy of entering Valhalla, Odin's grand hall in the afterlife.

Valkyries are usually depicted as fierce and skilled in combat, mounted on winged horses and wielding weapons. Their primary role is to select the bravest and most heroic of the fallen, known as the Einherjar, and bring them to Valhalla, the elite heaven where heroes drink, fight, feast and frolic for all eternity.

While the Valkyries are often portrayed as stern and unyielding, their stories sometimes explore themes of love, loyalty, and the complexities of their relationships with both mortals and other divine beings.

On rare occasions, mortals can spot the Valkyries riding across the sky at dawn; the sunlight refracting off their shining armor produces the Aurora Borealis.
