Taurus Season
Taurus, 2015
Taurus Season is April 20 - May 20, give or take a day. This time of year marks the height of spring in the Northern hemisphere. Here in Vancouver, that means noticeably longer days, however nice and flowers blooming everywhere. A mix of rain and sun tending towards more and more sunny days, meaning more and more outdoor activities.
First, a few words about astrology. Unless this is your first time here, you probably know that for me, astrology is a metaphorical language where we talk about human nature and the cycles of history in archetypal, symbolic terms to better understand the human condition. Your mileage may vary, and that’s the point.
Most people associate this sign with indulgence, delicious foods, luxury fabrics and relaxed evenings at home under a blanket, Netflix and chill type of vibe.
Mars in Taurus
Since I have Mars in Taurus in my chart, it's appropriate that I associate this season with increased activity and the compulsion to always be outdoors and moving, or basking in the sun like a cat absorbing the rays.
Mars in Taurus is not considered a great placement for self-directed ambition or motivation. It’s a slow burn, great at steadily plugging away at work that would bore the pants off someone with, say, Mars in Leo or Aquarius.
Throughout my life, some of my best friends have had the sun in Taurus, so it’s a sign with a special place in my heart. These have always been very active relationships, since their sun activates my Mars, with them spurring me to action, lighting a fire under my ass, as it were.
My best friend since 2021 is a Taurus and one of my favorite things about her is that she’s always saying, "let's do it!" As in, we were just offered free tickets to a show with only 30 minutes to get dressed and get to the theater. Let's do it!
Or, it's spring break and you’re between jobs anyway, let's go to Honolulu! Etcetera. She’s my summer tanning and roller skating partner. In the winter, we take long walks with her dog, bundled in our coats with drinks in our hands.
A Herd of Bulls
My high school boyfriend was a Taurus and we were together for three years. We worked out together, hiked together, had after school jobs gardening together... In fact, he's the only person with whom I've ever wrestled, and that's not a metaphor, I mean actually wrestling. LOL
Another Taurus friend got me back into bicycling and burlesque a couple of years ago. Tauruses are great because they inspire me to do things I naturally would rather avoid, like working out and shopping for clothes. LOL
Now that I'm thinking about it, my Taurus friends have been some of the best girls to trade clothes with. They always have a massive wardrobe and are always so generous with lending things.
I hate to say it, but a Virgo friend is probably not the best to borrow clothes from. We tend to keep things forever, don't really care if it's expensive or even in fashion, and would rather mend than replace.
But then I'm the only person I know who knows how to mend things and replace buttons, etcetera, so that's one of the Virgo skills I bring to the table.

Taurus Archetypes
Taurus is one of the signs ruled by Venus, along with Libra. I've always called Taurus the Marianne to Libra's Ginger.
The Taurus love language is homey, friendly and warm; knows how to cook, brings you comfort food when you're sick (or orders it up from an app), remembers your birthday and splurges on little luxuries to make you feel appreciated.
Libra, on the other hand, wants to appear to be the perfect partner even if it means micromanaging your appearance and behavior in public and when you're hosting guests in your own home.
Don't get me wrong, as someone with Venus in Libra, I lean more towards the Libra end of the Venus-ruled spectrum, but I appreciate the hell out of Taurus's earthy, practical, unabashedly physical approach to love, be it romantic, sexual or platonic.
Libra is a bit more ambitious and aloof when it comes to the pursuit of the better things in life. Apparently, there are more Libra millionaires than any other sign, but Taurus can be happy with a warm blanket and a soft couch, cuddled up next to their love interest. Libra will always strive for more lofty acquisitions, or at least the appearance thereof.
Don’t worry, I’ll get to praising Libra in a few months.
The other great thing about Taurus is that it is opposite Scorpio, which makes it a fixed sign of some gravity, despite their somewhat superficial trappings. Taurus has gravitas by association, living opposite the darkest and most mysterious of all signs.
My favorite symbol of Taurus is Ferdinand the Bull. If you're not Generation X, you might not know this wonderful story. Ferdinand was a bull who was recruited to the bull fights in Spain but preferred to smell the flowers and lay in the field and not fight. A beautiful Taurus symbol if ever there was one.
