Starzology Interview: Mark Winters
A conversation about astrology, creativity, music, and destiny...
A couple of months ago, I started a new series of interviews for the Starzology podcast, of which I’m a cohost. I’ll be reposting those interviews here over the next few weeks while I recover from my fractured wrist, which makes typing very difficult. Please make sure to follow us wherever you get your podcasts, and subscribe to the Starzology newsletter to get the latest episodes every Sunday.
In this episode of the Starzology podcast, I spoke with musician Mark Winters, whose unusual path to music began in the world of engineering and physics. Mark originally trained in aerospace engineering and worked extensively with computational fluid dynamics and advanced mathematics.

Early Origins
Although science came naturally to him, creativity was never far away. As a child he was influenced by both sides of his family. His grandmother wrote poetry and painted impressionistic landscapes, while his grandfather was an electrical engineer who also created detailed pen-and-ink drawings.
Mark’s musical journey began unexpectedly in 2011 when he decided to learn guitar as a surprise anniversary gift for his wife. Performing a song for her proved to be a transformative moment that sparked what he describes as an “obsession” with music.
Since then he has fully embraced songwriting and performance, even completing two major tours last year that included 120 shows and roughly 20,000 miles of travel on each tour.

Mark’s Chart
During the conversation we explored how Mark’s astrology chart reflects this blend of discipline and creativity. With Capricorn rising and Mars in the first house, he has a determined, self-directed drive. His Leo Moon in the seventh house speaks to his joy in performing and sharing music with others.
Several planets in the eleventh house, including Neptune, Uranus and Venus in Sagittarius, suggest collaboration, community, and an expansive artistic outlook. Mercury conjunct Uranus helps explain his flashes of creative insight, while Venus conjunct Jupiter in the twelfth house reflects his tendency to develop artistic ideas privately before sharing them.
Mark also described his songwriting process, which blends analytical thinking with intuition. Free writing, vocal training, and poetic lyric development help him balance the scientist and artist within him.
Brought Together by AI
When I asked Mark how he discovered the Starzology podcast, he explained that he uses AI-generated recommendation lists while on tour, to find new podcasts to listen to during those long hours on the road.
A month later, when Mark came through Vancouver, I checked out his show at the Heatley with a couple of friends, and we took a picture together.
